Sizes and weights

There is no international standard for bully stick grading — every brand defines its own, which is why the second order so often arrives looking a grade below the first. We grade by length and weight band together, because both are measurable on arrival and neither can be argued about. If you have your own grading specification, we will pack to it and mark the cartons accordingly.

Thin grade bully sticks

Cut to length

Cut on a band saw to a tolerance of ± ¼ inch, square to the blade. No diagonal cuts. The saw is cleaned with a quaternary sanitiser between batches.

Standard grade bully sticks

Graded on thickness

Thickness is judged against a photographed reference standard rather than a description. A 6 inch stick measuring under ½ inch through the middle is rejected, not downgraded.

Jumbo thick grade bully sticks

Natural variation

Colour runs from light tan through to dark brown and diameter varies piece to piece. Nothing is bleached, dyed or coated to even it out.

Braided sizes are three pizzles twisted together before drying, which is why they carry more weight for the same length. Full cane is the whole pizzle left uncut. Cutting tolerance is ± ¼ inch on every size.

How it is made

Odour in a bully stick comes from residual blood, urine and fat that were not removed before drying. There is no chemical shortcut that a serious buyer will accept, so we control it at the three points where it is actually decided.

01 · Collection

Pizzles are taken from licensed slaughter facilities and chilled immediately, then held in an unbroken cold chain until they are thawed for processing. Decomposition that starts here cannot be reversed later, which is why collection discipline matters more than anything downstream.

02 · Trim and wash

Fat, membrane and blood are trimmed by hand, then the pizzles are rinsed repeatedly in hot water. Blood and urine are water-soluble; removing them is what removes the odour.

03 · Dry, cut and check

Stretched, then air-dried on clean covered ground and raised racking, indoors and outdoors, and turned through the drying period so the pieces dry evenly to the core, finishing at 13% moisture. Cut to length on a band saw only once dry, then inspected piece by piece for consistency, odour and insect activity and passed through a metal detector before casing.

On the word “odour-free.” We supply a low-odour grade and we will not claim more than that. A single-ingredient dried meat product retains a mild natural aroma, and it becomes more noticeable once the chew is wetted by a dog’s saliva. Suppliers who promise a genuinely odourless stick have usually smoked it, bleached it or treated it with a deodoriser — all three break the single-ingredient claim your label depends on. We use no smoke, no bleach, no hydrogen peroxide, no chemical deodorisers and no irradiation.

Quote by container, not by tonnage

Dried pizzle is bulky relative to its weight, so a container fills by volume long before it reaches its weight limit. A 20 ft box loads roughly 9.6 tonnes against a 28-tonne payload. Buyers who plan on “a 20 ft holds 28 tonnes” will mis-price the freight, so we quote FCL by the box.

40 ft standardapprox. 784approx. 19,600 kgapprox. 20,800 kg
40 ft high cubeapprox. 896approx. 22,400 kgapprox. 23,800 kg
Loose-loaded. The 40 ft high cube is the efficient unit for this cargo. Palletising costs roughly 10–15% of the carton count and is offered where your distribution centre requires it.

Documentation and import clearance

We supply the full Bangladesh-side export set. Import permits and border clearance in your country are arranged by you as the importer, and we will provide whatever certification and plant information your authority asks us for. If you are putting together a supplier questionnaire, our guide to what a US pet-treat buyer checks before ordering sets out the ten screens most brands apply, and what we can answer for each.

Issued with every shipment

  • Commercial invoice
  • Packing list, carton-by-carton
  • Bill of lading
  • Certificate of Origin from a Bangladeshi chamber of commerce
  • Veterinary health certificate issued by the Department of Livestock Services
  • Certificate of analysis, lot-linked, from an independent laboratory
  • EXP form certified by our authorised dealer bank

Customs classification

  • Bulk cartons, single ingredient — HS 0511.99, animal products not elsewhere specified
  • Retail-packed private label — HS 2309.10, dog or cat food put up for retail sale

The correct heading depends on how the goods are packed, not on what they are. Confirm the classification with your own broker before booking.

Importers into the United States and Canada should read this before ordering. Bangladesh is not recognised as free of foot-and-mouth disease, so a ruminant-derived pet chew from Bangladesh is a controlled commodity in both countries and will not clear on a commercial invoice alone. A US importer needs a USDA APHIS Veterinary Services import permit and official veterinary certification of an approved treatment. A Canadian importer needs a CFIA import permit, a zoosanitary certificate, and microbiological results linked to the lot. This route is worked and we supply against it — every document, test result and plant detail your authority asks for. What we cannot do is hold the permit for you. It is issued to the importer of record, so start that application alongside the order rather than after it.

SamplesSample product is free. The courier is arranged and paid by the buyer. One thing to check before you ask: a courier parcel of ruminant material is a regulated import in its own right, and into the United States and Canada it needs the same permit as a container — so confirm your import permission first, or the parcel is seized rather than delivered. Alongside the sample you get the photographed grading standard, pass and fail examples of each size against a scale rule, a recent lot certificate of analysis, and a live video call from the floor during your production run.
